Source

Lizana Morales Grimanes and Marcelino Chinguel have dedicated over forty years to coffee cultivation, continuously adapting their methods. At their farm, *La Lucuma*, they’ve focused on the Marshell variety, a decision made after a devastating plague in 2018 destroyed their previous crop. To compete in the Peru Cup of Excellence, they experimented with naturally mutated coffee varieties. The variety named after Marcelino stood out for its quality, consistently ranking in the top 10 of the competition, including a winning lot in 2019.

Story

La Lúcuma is run by Lizana and Marcelino, who handle most of the farm’s operations themselves, hiring only eight pickers during the harvest. The family divides responsibilities: Marcelino manages administration and sales, Lizana oversees post-harvesting, Franklin, their eldest son, supervises picking, and Yocner, the youngest, handles quality control. Each lot is processed naturally—hand-sorted, floated, and rested for 16-24 hours before drying on raised beds in a solar dryer for 20 to 30 days.
