GIVING BACK
Strawberry Soda, Banana Candy, Milk Chocolate
At Greater Goods, we’re thrilled to bring back a coffee that has twice earned national recognition — our Ribang Gayo Natural, winner of the Good Food Awards in both 2023 and 2025. This year’s lot continues to showcase everything we love about Sumatra: deep sweetness, rich fruit complexity, and an elegant balance that reveals the best of this remarkable origin.
This coffee comes to us through the Farmgate Initiative from Asman Arianto and the Ribang Gayo Musara Cooperative, a collective of over 350 smallholder farmers in the highlands of Aceh Tengah, North Sumatra. Together, they’re not only producing exceptional coffee but also redefining what sustainability and collaboration can look like in Indonesia. You can also find this coffee featured in our Pourta Pouches offerings!

Founded in 2018, the Ribang Gayo Musara Cooperative was born from Asman Arianto’s vision to unite farmers and provide better opportunities through coffee. Originally from South Sumatra, Asman moved to Aceh in the late 90s and witnessed firsthand the challenges smallholder farmers faced. His solution was simple but powerful: create a cooperative that pays competitive prices, shares profits from premium lots, and invests in farmer training and infrastructure.
Today, the cooperative has grown to include 350+ member farmers, most cultivating less than 2.5 hectares each. Coffee is intercropped with vegetables and fruit trees, a sustainable approach that supports both biodiversity and family livelihoods. The cooperative’s new wet mill, completed in 2020, has allowed for expanded experimentation in processing methods — from fully washed and honey to natural — unlocking new flavor potential from Sumatra’s highlands.
Story
The Ribang Gayo Musara Natural represents a shift in how the world experiences Sumatran coffee. Traditionally known for its wet-hulled process, this coffee instead undergoes a natural process — handpicked cherries are meticulously sorted, then dried on raised beds inside greenhouses. The result is stunning clarity and a layered sweetness that departs from the earthy cup profiles many associate with Sumatra.
Each purchase of this coffee also supports a Farmgate Initiative project, ensuring that profits go directly back to the farmers and their families. Through this program, the cooperative continues to invest in agricultural training, drying infrastructure, and community resilience.
We’re proud to share this award-winning coffee once again — a testament to the vision, craftsmanship, and spirit of the Ribang Gayo Musara community, and a celebration of what’s possible when quality and impact go hand in hand.
