Let's Talk Coffee - Peru Origin Trip

Hey y'all, Khanh here! Let’s Talk Coffee, Peru sourcing 2025 - (Every Pun intended).

This was a special origin trip for me. We were invited to Sustainable Harvest’s Let’s Talk Coffee® 2026 Conference, which was held in Lima, Peru, to speak on a panel about some incredibly important topics on sustainability from our coffee producer partners and all along the supply chain. We shared our experiences on the post-pandemic recovery and our ongoing challenges as a small company in such a volatile coffee market. Not only was this an incredibly important topic to us, but it’s something that we’re all navigating right now in the coffee industry. From the current climate change and challenging harvests with low yield and quality, to tariffs that some of us are still paying off. We were so incredibly honored to have been asked to sit on this panel to take part and learn from so many others in the industry.

We followed the conference by riding the fun bus for 10 hours through winding roads to Chirinos, Cajamarca, to visit Finca Churupampa. We visited their progressive facility and learned more about the ROC®️- Regenerative Organic Certification process.

The way it works, from my understanding, is that the farmers will send their cascara to the mill after it's been pulped to have them add it to bone meal and other compost to create organic fertilizer pellets that get distributed back to them, so they can add this back into their soil, thus creating nutrient-rich and healthy coffee trees. This process allows the farmer to use everything from their land to regenerate the soil to aid in higher coffee production and cup quality.

Churupampa is a regenerative agriculture certified organization with many partner farmers being ROC certified. Their facility is incredibly innovative and sustainable. We learned about the programs and support Finca Churupampa provides to their 386 organic member co-op, with our newest relationship coffee from Mario Jesus Rufasto, being one of them.

Finca Churupampa is a big family farm, and Mario Jesus is a partner farmer. Mario Jesus was working with Eber (owner of Churupampa) before Churupampa was founded (2017), but he officially joined Churupampa as a lead member and became ROC® in 2023. We’re really excited about our newest relationship coffee with Mario Jesus. It’s been a while since I’ve gotten to cup something so fruity and vibrant with so much clarity and complexity.

We're so excited for y'all to try it! Grab yours here
